

Celebration of Life services for Deacon Curtis Griffin, of Shreveport, will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Washington's & Smith's Paradise Funeral Home, 1842 Barton Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana 71107. Pastor Brim officiating. Interment will follow in Filmore Cemetery in Haughton, Louisiana. Public Viewing will be on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m., in the Chapel. Flowers may be sent to or purchased at the Funeral Home.
Deacon Curtis Griffin, a native of Saline, Louisiana, was called from labor to reward on November 26, 2025, at Willis Knighton Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1935, to Solon and Bernice Banks, and accepted Christ at an early age. Deacon Griffin was a member of Southern Methodist Church, where he served as an active Deacon and Treasurer. On January 17, 1959, he married the love of his life, Ms. Vera Mae Jefferson, and to this union one daughter, Debbie Griffin, was born. Deacon Griffin is proceeded in death by his wonderful wife of 47 years: Vera Mae Griffin; sister: Helen Banks, and brother: Solon Banks, Jr. Deacon Griffin was the owner of Griffin’s Roofing and recognized as the first African-American owned roofing company in Shreveport. He will forever be known for his kindness, humbleness, Stetson hats, and being a classy dresser.
Deacon Griffin leaves to cherish his life, daughter: Debbie (Arland) Griffin-Tate; sisters: Leola Hudson, Barbara Banks-Jones; brothers: Larry Banks and Pastor Charles Banks; a special brother-in-love: Wilbert (Carmen) Thomas, Jr.; two grandsons: Michael D. Williams, Jr. and Moriel D. (Kameela) Williams; six great-grandchildren: Christiana Johnson, Michael D. Williams, III, Morianna D. Mosley, Skylar Williams, Moriel D. Williams, Jr. and Madison M. Williams; two God-children: Tramel Lars and Tiffany White; three special nieces: Kim Carley, Tangela Lane and Stephanie Mills, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
